About Hermione

I am an enthusiastic teacher with an A* in Maths, Ad Maths GCSE & Maths A-Level, and an A in Further Maths A-Level (as aforementioned). I would love to encourage an understanding of how and why the student is answering a particular problem so as to facilitate a confident approach to similarly styled questions there after. I would also encourage the student to notice the patterns that appear so as to ease their apprehensions going into any Mathematics exam.

I have tutored at GCSE level, and in one particular case I helped a student who never thought a pass was possible to do just that. It was a fantastic experience and it was wonderful to see an initially huge lack of confidence develop into a belief that passing IS possible if that is what you want, or indeed higher - according entirely to your own goals.

About the lesson

I am currently in my third year at The University of Edinburgh, studying Mathematics. I achieved an A* at GSCE level Mathematics and Additional Mathematics (which I understand has now been renamed at that level Further Maths), an A* at A-Level for Mathematics and an A in A-Level Further Mathematics. I think that Mathematics is a truely rewarding subject and during my school years I was lucky enough to have a wonderful Maths teacher, who really stressed that it’s important to understand why we approach certain problems with a particular thought process in mind. If you can undo the words within the question, you can solve the problem. I would hope to inspire such thinking in anyone that I teach. I understand that Maths can be frustrating at times, however when the penny drops so to speak - a wonderful clarity appears which can give you the motivation to try harder problems - which I believe forms the fundamental platform for doing well in any Mathematics exam, whatever level it may be. It really is the case that if you practice enough, you will see the results which you desire and I hope to be of assistance in unravelling the process to make your Mathematical life easier.
