About Laura

Alongside my design work, I have a wide range of teaching experience across age groups and creative disciplines:

Leading children’s art workshops for home ed students and holiday clubs.

Private tutor for Maths and English for students around Brighton and surrounding Sussex areas.

Currently trained to teach GCSE and A-Level Art & Design, with a teaching specialism in Fashion, Business, and Art & Design.

Teaches a Sustainable Entrepreneurship to international students aged 9–17 at a summer school in Oxford.

Delivering creative sessions that adapt to each student's interests, needs, SEND requirements and abilities.

Qualifications

Laura holds a BA in Design from Goldsmiths, University of London, where I developed a strong foundation in contemporary artistic practice, research-led design, and conceptual thinking.

A teaching PGCE in Creative Teaching for FE (Further Education) from Brighton University

About the lesson

Lesson Structure

Part 1: Ice Breaker
Each Maths or English session begins with a warm, engaging ice-breaker linked to the topic of the day. This helps students feel comfortable, focused, and ready to learn.

Part 2: Topic Introduction
We move into a clear, accessible introduction to the topic, using visual prompts, images, or short multimedia clips to spark curiosity and build understanding.

Part 3: Guided Task
Students then take on a guided question or activity tailored to their level, learning style, and developmental needs. This may include:

Interactive challenges
Games or learn-through-play tasks
Reviewing images, videos, diagrams, or examples
Short discussions to encourage reasoning and communication

Part 4: Independent or Supported Practice
Learners apply their new skills through structured tasks, with the option of 1:1 support when needed. Activities are designed to build confidence step by step.

Part 5: Reflection & Wrap-Up
We end with a quick recap, celebration of achievements, and a chance for students to share what they enjoyed or found interesting.
