About Alexander

I am a full time tutor. Tutoring one-to-one can yield up to two weeks of school learning from just one 90-minute session in my experience. Teacher training has made me realise how much learning time is wasted in schools with behaviour management and work that is too easy or too hard. I studied maths for 3 years at the University of Nottingham and have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Derby. Tutoring is far more fulfilling than classroom teaching since individual progress is much faster and nearly 100% of tutoring time is spent productively exploring the subject which I have dedicated my life to teaching.

About the lesson

I deliver fast paced, accessible lessons which adapt in real time to the needs (and wants) of my students. The content is covered in the best way for each individual.

Students are given challenges. Easier questions are good stepping stones but never the goal.

I don't just spot misconceptions, I know how to help students "discover" them and challenge their own mathematical beliefs. Common sense checks is a vital but often undervalued skill.

I don't waste lesson time on behaviour/admin, every minute is spent learning new concepts, weeding out misconceptions or practicing skills by problem solving.

Maths learning should be fun and if it's not, then it can be taught better.

In person lessons under 90 minutes incur a £5 travel fee. Fee is waived for lessons 90 minutes or more. No travel fee on trial lesson.
