About Robert
I started teaching in 1980. I have taught Maths at many different levels from basic arithmetic / numeracy through to KS3, GCSE and A-level including Further Maths. Most of my teaching experience has been in the 16-19 sector although I have also taught in the 11-18 range, as well as adult education especially Access to Higher Education courses.

I adopt a friendly approach to 1-1 tutoring. Sessions should be as active as possible with a variety of resources and teaching methods.The focus ideally will be equally on mastering fundamental concepts as well as practising particular questions, in particular harder exam type problems. I like students to come to tutorials with as many specific questions and issues as possible in order to make the session effective. Also it is essential that I set independent work after each session so that students are tackling plenty of relevant examples before the next session. This is vital for checking students' understanding and retention of work covered. I have access to a wide range of resources such as past papers and notes which can be shared with or e mailed to tutees.
