About Siva

I have been teaching College level Accounting and Finance for 33 years. I have taught both in community college and in a regular university. I adjust my approach and methods according to the needs and level of the students. Most students I have taught face to face in classrooms have excelled in the subject. Many students come back to take my classes for upper levels. I also proudly claim that some of my students have passed the CPA exam and they have acknowledged my contribution to their success.

About the lesson

I explain the theory first, then illustrate it with an example. I then give students similar problems to work out to reinforce their understanding. Sometimes depending on the subject and level of college, I challenge students with brainstorming. A lesson plan: ACCOUNTING CYCLE: the process by which the companies produce their financial statements for a specific period of time. It includes work performed at two different times 1. During the period: journalizing and posting the transactions 2. End of the period: adjusting process, closing the accounts and preparing financial statements. CLOSING THE ACCOUNTS; the end of the period process that prepares the accounts for the next period. It brings the balances in revenue and expense accounts to zero, in order to clearly measure the income of each period separately from all other periods TEMPORARY OR NOMINAL ACCOUNTS: are revenue, expense and withdrawal accounts PERMANENT OR REAL ACCOUNTS: are asset, liability and equity accounts. ACCOUNTING CYCLE 1/1 The owner opened a business on law service and invested $40,000 cash and $20,000 worth of a car. The car has a life of 3 years and $2000 salvage value 1/5 Hired a clerk for a monthly salary of $1000 and will be paid on the first of the following month 1/10 bought furniture and equipment for $4,000 and $2500 respectively on account. They have a life of five years and no salvage value 1/15 received $12,000 from a client for a lawsuit that will not start until the 30th of the month 1/20 provided a service to another client and received $2,000 cash 1/25 purchased $1000 supplies for cash 1/25 borrowed $15,000 loan from a bank, at an interest of 12% 1/31 determined that one quarter of the service was provided for the client from 1/15 $800 of supplies were on hand. Steps in accounting cycle 1. Enter the transactions in the journal. 2. Post them to ledger accounts 3. Calculate the account balances and prepare trial balance. 4. Do the necessary adjusting entries and adjusted trial balance. 5. Prepare the Income statement and then close the accounts. 6. Prepare other financial reports My three decades of teaching experience at different levels have given me an intuitive approach to students. I can predict when the students will have doubts on the subject and I focus on the particular topic and will spend more time illustrating. I approach the student with respect and compassion when they falter and I build up their confidence. I can teach all levels of the subject, from Introductory to Intermediate and Advanced.
