About Yousef

I am a mechanical engineering graduate who has a 1st class hons degree in mechanical engineering, specialising in Electric Vehicle powertrains. An area I worked in for over a year at a start up in the UK. I have been teaching maths and science part time for 3 years and full time for the last 6 months.

About the lesson

Why am I doing This
Firstly, it’s important to understand why we need to know about something, like why a student might need to know and understand ‘Voltage Dividers’. So I think it's important to explain how this bit of science helps society. In the case of Voltage dividers, it allows your laptop to work in both Europe and The Americas by changing the output voltage using a cheap and simple resistor :)

Example Focussed
Instead of droning on to the student about how it all works, when it comes to the numbers it's best to focus on working out problems together, like this the student gets exposed to all sorts of applications of the science and learns by understanding and not just remembering.

Forming a process
It's also important for a student to learn and understand how to spot and correct their own mistakes, maybe by writing out their working in a methodical way, or taking that extra second to ask - is the football really going 2x the speed of sound? By working out problems together we can help form small habits and routines that will help the student get the most out of their skills.

Building confidence
Improving skills by first working on simple problems that look into understanding and then moving on to more difficult applications.
