About Ammara

I'm a 3rd year medical student studying at Queen Mary. I have always had a genuine interest in Biology, particularly reproduction and genetics, and this interest played a big part in my decision to study Medicine at Queen Mary University of London (or Barts and The London). What drew me to Medicine was the opportunity to see Biology applied to real life on such a large scale, while continuing to develop a much deeper understanding of how the human body works.

I achieved 6 GCSEs at Grade 9(A**) including in both Biology and Chemistry, and my remaining 3 GCSEs at Grade 8(A*), as well as Grade As in Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A-level. I now have the opportunity to explore many of the concepts I enjoyed at school in much greater depth through my medical degree. I am particularly interested in Women’s Health and have also developed a growing interest in Paediatrics, both of which allow me to explore areas of Biology that I find especially fascinating.

Outside of my own studies, I have been tutoring for around 4 years, primarily working with students preparing for the 11+. I have really enjoyed watching students progress over time and seeing the difference that having someone to support and encourage them can make to their confidence.

As someone who has recently been through GCSEs and A-levels myself, I understand how overwhelming a subject can feel when there is a lot of content to learn and exams to prepare for. I also know how rewarding it is when a difficult concept finally clicks. I hope to bring that perspective, alongside my current experience studying Medicine, to my tutoring.

Most importantly, I genuinely love Biology and enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with others. I want my students to see Biology as a subject they can understand and enjoy, rather than simply a long list of information they have to memorise.

About the lesson

My lessons are personalised to each student and their individual goals. I typically begin by breaking down the topic into clear, manageable concepts and establishing a strong understanding of the underlying theory. I regularly ask questions throughout the lesson to check understanding and identify any gaps before moving on.

Once the foundations are secure, I use exam-style questions to give students the opportunity to apply what they have learnt with the support of a tutor. This allows us to identify areas that need further explanation, reinforce understanding and gradually build confidence. I also place a strong emphasis on exam technique, helping students understand how to approach different question styles, structure their answers and apply their knowledge effectively.

I am patient and adaptable in my teaching and will try different explanations or approaches until I find one that works for the individual student. I want students to feel comfortable asking as many questions as they need, while ensuring that lessons remain focused and productive.

Lessons are typically 1 hour long and take place online. I teach GCSE and A-level Biology and welcome students of different abilities, whether they are looking to build their confidence, improve their understanding, prepare for exams or work towards their highest possible grades.

My aim is for students to leave each lesson with not only a better understanding of the topic, but also practical techniques for approaching questions and learning effectively that they can apply across Biology and other areas of their education.

Having gone through GCSE and A-level Biology myself relatively recently and now studying Medicine, I can offer both the perspective of someone who has successfully navigated these exams and the deeper understanding of Biology that comes with studying it at university. Most importantly, I genuinely enjoy the subject and hope to pass some of that enthusiasm on to my students!
