About Rayyan

As a student, I was a late bloomer when it came to the sciences, lacking the confidence that it was something I could be great in. Through my own experiences, I understand the transformative effect a teacher and mentor can have in nurturing this confidence, and instilling a student with a passion and drive for learning. This change in attitude, coupled with the support network around me, is what lead me from getting Bs and Cs in GCSE biology in year 10 to full marks in my biology GCSE exams in year 11. This passion continued throughout my life until now - having attained a level 6 (equivalent of an A) in higher level biology as part of the international baccalaureate, and now studying medicine.

I have just completed the third year of my medical studies and am currently studying an intercalated masters in Global Health, before returning to medicine next year.

I’ve achieved A’s and A*’s throughout GCSE and International Baccalaureate (A Level equivalent) (I can provide copies of my certificates upon request).

About the lesson

Part of why I wish to tutor is because I want to help other students in the same way I was helped. As a tutor, I spend a relatively small proportion of time with my students during their week, so it is important that the time I do spend with them improves their learning experience even when our session is over.

My lessons are adaptable and will be tailored to each individual student, but generally in our first few lessons together I will get an idea of your learning style and areas that you are struggling with. We will then go through topics that you have studied before but have yet to master, topics you are currently studying in school or topics you are due to start so we can get ahead. Our lessons will be interactive and involve a mixture of going through the revision guide/textbook for your syllabus, exam questions, and a digital whiteboard.

I try to break down large and challenging topics into digestible pieces of information. My primary goals from our lessons is that a) you leave having understood the content b) you are equipped with the tools and methodology to efficiently study in your own time.

For any of my students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or it's related subjects, I am happy to offer some insight, advice and support as part of our sessions as I have personal experience with the admissions process and with assisting students with it (but this is not my main area of focus).

I am happy to offer a free first lesson to get to know you as a student, and to allow us to identify whether I am suitable as a tutor for you. Our first session will allow us to get to know each other, your current situation with biology, your goals, and for me to go through how I plan on tutoring you.
