About Siobha

Hi everyone!

I'm Siobha (shee-fah), a medical student and tutor with Superprof.

As both a tutor and a recent taker of the Leaving Certificate, I'm all too aware of what State Exams demand of us and how often schools may not have the time or resources to support everyone fully in their school journey.

That is what I see myself as - a support in a much wider system that can help you get where you want to go. I have a plethora of tips and tricks that can help you learn the fine details of your subject, as well as notes and tests that will help with your active recall.

I've taught and teach people of all levels and am dedicated to helping you achieve everything you set your mind to!

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is focused on providing a structured space for my students to achieve their goals. My class lengths are typically 60 minutes, but are open to changes and/or breaks depending on the needs of the student.

I offer grinds in Maths, Physics and Chemistry for Junior and Leaving Certificate students. I am a second year Medical student in RCSI with three years tutoring experience. I have spent the last six months as a Teaching Assistant with the Centre for Talented Youth Ireland.

I begin my lessons by first meeting with the student to discuss their goals and history with the particular subject. This allows me to ascertain the student's current level and form a lesson plan based on that.

Each student I teach receives an Excel Spreadsheet with a breakdown of all aspect of each topic that must be learned for whatever exam they are studying for. This allows us to keep track of what topic we've covered and what is yet to be done. This helps support students whose school may not be able to cover aspects of the course due to time constraints.

Students will leave each session with 2-3 practise questions to encourage active recall of the topics covered in that class. Before moving onto new topics, a short exam (no longer than 10-15 minutes) will be done to confirm that the student has a full understanding of the topic at hand.

To improve focus and to prevent stagnancy, every class is broken into two with a two minute movement break in the middle.

My main focus as a teacher is to provide a safe space for the student to be able to make mistakes and ask questions about the topic in order to deepen their understanding of the material. I am a patient, compassionate listener with a clear understanding of what is being asked of students in State exams, and have cultivated a style which is focused around obtaining the finesse needed for high grades without destroying a student's love of the subject.
