Bright Brains YYC – 1:1 Reading Intervention

Hi there! I’m Miss Becky, the founder of Bright Brains YYC and a passionate **Reading Intervention Specialist**. I love helping young learners build strong foundations in reading and phonics. With a degree in education and years of experience working with children, including those with disabilities, I bring both expertise and a warm, engaging approach to every session.

What We Offer

At Bright Brains YYC, we focus on phonics and literacy for students in Kindergarten through Grade 3**. Our sessions are fully individualized (1:1) structured, fun, and built on proven, research-backed strategies that boost reading skills and confidence.

About the lesson

Teaching Methodology and Techniques
I believe learning should be fun, engaging, and tailored to each child’s unique needs. My approach is hands-on and interactive, using games, manipulatives, and sensory activities to keep lessons exciting. With a focus on primary phonics and literacy, I incorporate multi-sensory techniques that allow kids to hear, see, and touch the concepts we're exploring. I aim to build confidence by fostering a positive learning environment where children feel encouraged to take risks and celebrate small victories.

A Typical Lesson with Miss Becky

A session with me is engaging, structured, and personalized! I follow the UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) framework, but every lesson is tailored to your child’s unique progress and interests. Here’s what it looks like:

Warm-Up & Segmenting Practice
We start by orally segmenting words into sounds and blending them back together , the perfect brain warm-up!

Word Chains with Tiles
Using letter tiles, we build words and then change just one tile at a time to create new words. This builds strong phonemic awareness and decoding skills.

New Concept or Sound
We introduce a new letter or letter-sound pattern, practicing it through multisensory activities.

10-Minute Game Break
Halfway through the session, we pause for a quick game break, where I sneak in extra numeracy and problem-solving practice in a fun way.

Story Work
Together we dissect a short reading passage, highlighting heart words (words that need to be memorized by sight) and spotting examples of the new concept.

Optional Reading Time
If time allows, we end with a story at your child’s reading level to apply skills in real reading.

Each lesson is designed to be fun, encouraging, and effective, ensuring your child leaves feeling confident and proud of their progress.

My energy and enthusiasm are contagious! I take pride in creating a supportive and encouraging space where kids feel comfortable learning at their own pace. I use creative techniques like sensory-based activities and dramatic play to make literacy lessons come alive. Plus, with my background in teaching children with disabilities, I’m experienced in adapting lessons for diverse learning styles, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to succeed.

Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for young learners, typically between kindergarten and grade 3, who need support with literacy and phonics. Whether your child is just beginning to read, needs help with letter-sound recognition, or struggles with blending words, I’m here to help! I work with students of all abilities, including those with learning disabilities, tailoring my lessons to meet each child's specific needs and goals.
