About Harper
Tight muscles are actually the primary enemy of beautiful tone production on the violin. You must relax your frame to allow the bow to speak clearly against the strings. I translate complex MMus level theory into accessible steps for grade exam candidates. Beginners often appreciate how I break down tuning by ear into a systematic process.
The curriculum remains consistent, yet your individual progress dictates the timing of our shifts. This work requires patience and a clear mind. We focus on the physical sensation of sound rather than just the visual reading of music.

Holding an MMus degree means I have spent countless hours refining my own technique. Truthfully, the most technical aspects of violin playing are often the most misunderstood by beginners.
I have supported 207 students as they navigate shifting positions, vibrato, and proper bowing technique. My background as a Conservatoire-trained musician ensures that theory and tone production remain central to our work. I prioritize a calm, detail-oriented environment for self-taught players and exam candidates alike.
