About Katie
I am a current fourth year secondary music education major at the University of Regina with a minor in social studies.
I have been playing the trombone for 10 years in a variety of school groups and community groups including jazz groups, wind ensembles, brass ensembles, and orchestra ensembles. I have experience on most brass instruments in these ensembles. I also have experience in choral ensembles and intermediate piano skills.
I have been apart of multiple solo and group music festivals including the Regina Music Festival, Saskatchewan Music Festival, Canadian Music Festival and the Anaheim Heritage Festival.
I have completed all necessary theory courses for my undergraduate and I am contemplating a Masters degree in Music Theory for after my undergraduate degree.
I have not completed any Conservatory theory tests but I have extensively studies theory throughout my high school and undergrad career. Although I haven't done these tests, I have all the necessary information to succeed on these types of examines. My rate will reflect this.

I take pride in that my teaching methods are geared towards each student and their needs and prior experiences. There is no strict method to teaching music to students and as a teacher, we must be willing to adapt and change lesson plans based on our students and how they are doing academically and outside of their academics.
Music education requires patience, focus, and an understanding of the importance of practice and repetition. Students should expect to practice outside of lesson/class time as repetition and practice are key to success in music.
Lesson structure varies by specific lesson topics but overall lessons will include explanation of subject, examples, group (or one-on-one) work, and individual practice in and out of the actual lesson. Majority of lessons will end with an assignment for next lesson to keep students engaged in what they are learning and carry on their education outside of the specific lesson time.
