About Rowyn
I have a BMus with Honours from the University of Toronto and have completed RCM Grade 8-10. My work since graduating has been focused on musical theatre, as a music director, coach, composer, arranger, and accompanist.
Currently I provide accessibility facilitation at Concordia University, so I am experienced in working with students with disabilities–and beyond difference in ability, every person has a different learning style and different needs that I am committed to accommodating. I am not interested in intimidating students into practicing, or shutting down their creativity. We will keep learning on track through patient guidance and understanding.

While learning piano I engaged with Christopher Norton's Connections, the Bastien Piano basic Method, and the RCM–but I believe that personalized lessons are much more effective than being confined to a single method.
I start with a piece that the student is interested in learning or that will be familiar to them, then introduce pieces that will help develop their technique and diversify their reading ability.
I also introduce pieces that expand the student's stylistic repertoire and understanding of different genres, while providing context for the works so they can situate them within a historical and/or cultural framework.
Most of my students have had some ability to read sheet music, but I will gladly teach someone with no experience.
