About Maia

My background in music includes a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Music & Psychology, but personally I have more pop/contemporary leanings as a vocalist, songwriter and engineer with a Masters of Recording Music. I have taught students of all levels and ages for close to 15 years, in both piano and vocals (8 years) and it is in doing this that has inspired creating these sessions. Often it is hard to find someone to talk to who understands this journey and genuinely cares and wants to help. My own teaching career has not just involved teaching music but providing this empathetic space for budding musicians and it's my own love for this that has continued this work for as long as I have :)

About the lesson

As a musician and piano/vocal teacher in the industry for 15 years, I understand the ups and downs in it and how difficult it can be to traverse a lot of it on your own. And so I am creating this mentorship session for those of you who want to just discuss where you’re going, how you’re feeling, and get some real feedback on your musicianship and work. My journey in music started as a classical piano student, with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Music & Psychology, but personally I have more pop/contemporary leanings as a vocalist, songwriter and engineer with a Masters of Recording Music. All the while I have taught students of all levels and ages for close to 15 years, which empowers me to offer this session the most. Being a private teacher isn’t just about building skills, but mentoring and creating a safe space for students and artists to find their voice, work through their insecurities that block them and help them to find their path. My students are my second family, and really, it’s this part that truthfully (and cheesily!) is my favorite part about teaching. Furthermore, if you would like real and honest feedback on your musicianship and whatever you would like to share, this time and space is for you. I have listened to and taught many genres, played solo and in bands, dabbled in many instruments (including guitar), and so it’s this holistic understanding of music and its intersection with the industry that is my own favorite and specialty. Some of my best mentors have been teachers. I know that if I had this as an option back in the day, it would have given me a lot of relief and provided the encouragement I would’ve needed which is a big part of why I wanted to create these sessions, as someone who can provide this now :) (Please note that the session is not designed to be about getting advice for the business side of the industry, but as a space to honor where you are on your journey & where you would like to go.) Details

Given the nature of these sessions, the first "free" one will actually be for 15 minutes. It's a nice meet and greet and you're welcome to email me and chat through there any time. These are also priced as one-off sessions but if you feel like you would like some regularity or accountability, we can figure out a way that suits you. This session is yours, you are welcome to use it however you would like :)
