About Emma

Welcome! I'm Emma Bentley, a dedicated music educator and professional musician with over 4 years of experience in performance and teaching. My journey in music began at an early age, and I've had the privilege of studying with some wonderful teachers throughout my musical journey. These experiences have shaped my approach to teaching, allowing me to bring real-world performance experience into my lessons while maintaining a strong foundation in pedagogy.

My musical education includes a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio, where I honed my skills as both a performer and educator. While studying at CWRU, I had the privilege of studying clarinet as my primary instrument, and percussion as a secondary. Throughout my undergraduate career, I prioritized comprehensively learning all instruments, so that I may better help future students. I was lucky enough to have performed on the cello, French horn, trumpet, and saxophone, in addition to my studies.

About the lesson

I believe that music education is essential for developing well-rounded, creative, and empathetic individuals. My lessons are a safe and inclusive space where students are encouraged to explore, create, and perform with confidence. I strive to connect musical concepts to students' lives and cultures, fostering a personal and lasting appreciation for the arts. These lessons are for students up to and including basic required undergraduate music theory.

I had the pleasure of attending college with Emma as a non-music undergrad taking a music theory course. Emma was phenomenal in helping to teach me these music theory concepts in a way that I could understand and carry with me to the exams. She was very patient and clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter, and because of her, I ended with a very high grade in music theory and a deepened understanding and appreciation for the subject. I have no hesitation in recommending Emma as a teacher in any music-related field!
