About Helena

I'm a first year Conservatoire student and have been passionate about music my entire life. I've been studying Music as an actual, analytic subject for 3 years now, but have been learning about Music and have been surrounded by music my entire life, after joining orchestras and choirs in primary school and secondary school, and joining as a Girl Chorister at Winchester Cathedral at 13, which I was in and thrived until I had to leave at 18. I'm now going in to Music University and plan on making Music my career, which means that I'm extremely dedicated to the subject and am very knowledgable through my life-long love of it.

About the lesson

When starting to analyse a piece, you first have to learn the context surrounding it and the period in which it was composed, meaning that my students eventually get a well rounded knowledge of the piece as a whole, which, in my experience, is incredible useful when aiming to achieve the higher grades in Music GCSE and A Level, especially in the Essay portion. I then go through the piece as a whole while listening to it, so that my students can get familiar with it. Then I go through the piece in detail, pointing out the nuances and important areas to note, as in the exam it is extremely important to know the piece so well, that you can remember how the piece sounds, even without listening to it. I'm able to offer top-up lessons in conjunction to lessons taught in schools, to help further your knowledge of the subject or fill in any missing gaps, or teach the piece from the start. I'm available quite frequently as being a University student means that I have a lot of free time to help you understand the often complex and rather difficult details of a Music GCSE/A Level syllabus.
