About Alex

My name is Alex, and I am a saxophonist, composer, and educator currently located in the Memphis, Tennessee area. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from the prestigious University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill.

I am recognized locally and nationally for my work as a jazz performer. I have performed and recorded with Grammy nominated jazz artists including Rachel Therrien, Stephen Anderson, Baron Tymas, and Rahsaan Barber. In 2022, I was awarded 1st prize at the North American Saxophone Alliance's National Jazz Saxophone Soloist Competition. I have presented original compositions at the Jazz Education Network Conference, and was the premiering artist for the "Cold Chicken Suite" composed by 8-time Grammy-winning jazz bassist Christian McBride.

I have maintained a private saxophone studio for six years, where I teach students of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. I have also served on the faculties of the University of North Carolina Summer Jazz Workshop and the John Coltrane Jazz Workshop. I currently serve as a graduate assistant instructor at the University of Memphis, where I direct Jazz Combo I and teach saxophone lessons for non-majors.
