About Stephanie
I have been an educator for over 20 years in one capacity or another. I started in my own group home daycare where my attendees were part of the Mother Goose Learning program. That expanded into building and owning a large daycare center with 5 different aged classrooms from infants to 12 years old-each with their own weekly lesson plans and assessments. From there I went on to teaching English as a Second Language about ten years ago and still today continue that in my early morning hours. About six years ago, I started tutoring math and English Language Arts online for a remote company and as the pandemic hit and online tutoring for students became very necessary, I started working across several different platforms tutoring all the elementary subjects of social studies, math, ELA, and science. I am passionate about helping learners grow and get past learning obstacles or just stay ahead of the curve. With 4 children of my own, three grown-up and successful, I have always stressed the importance of a good education and asking for help when they need it. As I was there for them, I am here for your student as well.

Learning should be FUN! Kids go to school all day long and most of them do not want to add more of that onto the end of their day, so I think it is really important to make sure the student WANTS to return to their tutoring sessions each week. I always make sure to first confer with the parents and see what their student needs and what their concerns and goals are. Then, I spend time getting to know the student in order to incorporate things they are passionate about into our sessions and build a trusting bond with them. Next, if needed, I assess them to see what the best starting point is for our learning journey. Once we have done all of that, a regular session starts with asking questions about their current challenge so I can meet them where they are in their learning then I model problems. We transition into working some together and then they do some independent practice as I observe, and we discuss their work. I believe praise, practice, communication, and play make it all come together. A major part of tutoring is also building confidence in the students so they realize they CAN do the work on their own. The last step is our 10–15-minute exit game over the materials we learned that day. Students LOVE to beat the teacher and always look forward to returning; I love getting the post-game report that shows what they did well and what we may need to practice more! Come join me!
