About Susan
I am a native English speaker born and living in Fredericton, NB. I have a BSc in Forestry and a Master's in Adult Education with a focus on ESL and curriculum development. I have worked for the federal government in research, the University of New Brunswick in recreation, at Eastern College as a Wellness instructor and in various positions as an English second language instructor. My most recent position was with the Multicultural Association of Fredericton. I love teaching English and getting to know people from many different countries. I like to make people feel comfortable and can easily pick out engrained errors as well as language specific issues and help people improve their spoken English.

When teaching one-on-one, I like to get to know the student and find out what their goals are and where they need the most help. I like to focus on speaking and listening as well as vocabulary. I have over 10 years experience as an ESL teacher having taught university students, refugees, immigrants, temporary foreign workers and soldiers. I like to prepare people for the workplace with a proper resume, cover letter and interview preparation as well as emphasizing the cultural norms in the Canadian workplace. Many of my students have gone on to find successful careers and further education. The lesson plan is dependent on the student, but would usually start with a warmup discussion, review homework, if any, read a text, go over pronunciation and new words and if required, writing. The text could be replaced with a listening activity like the news. Homework is dependent on the student's time commitments.
