About Valentino

I am a native Italian speaker and an Oxford-trained academic with several years of teaching experience at university level.

I hold a DPhil in Classical Languages and Literature from the University of Oxford, where I also completed an MSt with Distinction. Before that, I graduated from University College London with First Class Honours. Alongside my research, I have taught undergraduate students at several Oxford colleges and within the Faculty of Classics.

My teaching experience has taught me the importance of clarity, patience and adapting to the individual student. I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and gradually becoming more confident in their Italian.

I take my students’ goals seriously and prepare lessons carefully, while keeping them engaging and flexible. Whether you are learning Italian for study, work, travel, personal interest or simply want to become more fluent in conversation, I will tailor the lessons to your needs and help you make steady, tangible progress.

As someone who has lived, studied and taught in the UK for several years, I am also particularly well placed to explain Italian to English-speaking learners and to anticipate some of the difficulties they commonly encounter.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student's level, goals and interests. I aim to combine a clear and structured approach to grammar with plenty of conversation, so that students can develop both accuracy and confidence in using Italian.

Depending on the student's needs, lessons can focus on speaking and pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing, as well as Italian literature and culture. I particularly enjoy explaining the logic behind the language and helping students understand patterns rather than simply memorising rules.

A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes and usually combines explanation, guided practice and conversation. I adapt the pace and materials to the individual student, whether they are complete beginners, intermediate learners looking to become more fluent, or advanced students wishing to refine their Italian.

I am a native Italian speaker and hold a DPhil in Classical Languages and Literature from the University of Oxford. I also completed an MSt at Oxford with Distinction and a BA at University College London with First Class Honours. I have several years of university-level teaching experience at Oxford, where I have taught students across a range of subjects in Classics.

My lessons are suitable for adults and students of all levels, from beginners to advanced learners. I can also offer more specialised support to university students and learners interested in Italian literature, culture, academic writing or developing a more sophisticated command of the language.
