About Mafu

Hi there!

My name is Mafu, and I'm a native Japanese speaker from Osaka, Japan!

I was born and raised in Osaka and lived there for 25 years before moving to Canada, where I've been living for the past six years. My main profession is as a pastry chef, but teaching has always been one of my passions.

In Japan, I taught pastry making to both university and college students. Through that experience, I learned how to explain things clearly, answer questions patiently, and teach from the student's perspective. I believe learning is much easier when lessons are adapted to each person's goals and learning style, so I'll prepare materials that fit your individual needs.

Whether you're:

Since I'm from Osaka, I can also teach you the Kansai dialect (Osaka-ben) and share fun conversations about Japanese culture, anime, and everyday life.

Besides teaching Japanese, I have over **8 years of experience as a pastry chef** and studied **art for 3 years**. If you're interested in learning about Japanese desserts, Western-style pastries, or even illustration and drawing as a hobby, I'd be happy to share my knowledge with you as well!

I always try to create a relaxed, patient, and enjoyable learning environment where you can feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions.

Perfect! I’m Japanese Canadian, but Japanese isn’t my first language, so I wanted to improve my accent and fix some small mistakes. Mafu really listened to what I wanted to work on and suggested lessons that fit my level and goals. She was very patient, friendly, and easy to talk to, which made the class really fun and comfortable. I’m looking forward to taking more lessons with her! Highly recommend!
