About Honami

I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Shikoku in Japan, and I moved to California after graduating from high school.

Teaching Japanese is a way for me to stay connected to my roots, and it is something that I genuinely enjoy doing. I can also be your travel consultant when you are planning your holidays, making sure you have the most authentic experience possible!

About the lesson

My lessons/teaching style in a nutshell :

・Learn through simple and casual conversation (speaking >>>> textbooks)

・Learn language and its culture (Because it goes hand in hand!)

・Yes I am your teacher, but also a friend! (After all, it's a human relationship that we build)

As someone who started learning English as a second language at the age of 18, I strongly believe that the key to mastering a language is continuous verbal communication. I also believe that everyone learns differently, so getting to know you as a person really matters to me! It helps me understand what works best for you and what doesn’t - if you think we might be able to work together, please feel free to get in touch :)

Perfect! Leaving a review after 3 months of classes: Honami is a great teacher! Her style really suits me: we spend most of our time in conversation in Japanese where I learn about the vocab that's relevant to my interests, and spend part of the lessons focusing on new grammar. Her classes are creative and feels more like talking to a friend than sitting in a classroom.
I will definitely be continuing as my progress has been great. Thank you Honami-sensei!
