About Hirona

Hi! I’m Hirona, a native Japanese speaker born and raised in Japan. I’ve lived in Malaysia, the US, and now the UK, which has given me a deep appreciation for different cultures and how language connects us. My own experience learning English taught me how challenging (and rewarding!) learning a new language can be and that’s what inspired me to start teaching. As a tutor, I bring empathy, encouragement, and a flexible approach to every lesson. I tailor my teaching to each student’s goals, whether you’re learning Japanese for travel, anime, everyday conversation, or exams like the JLPT. I focus on practical Japanese that you can really use, and I always include cultural context to make learning more engaging and meaningful. Outside of teaching, I love cooking, going to the gym, travelling, and spending time with my two dogs. I’m also a huge Animal Crossing fan and enjoy watching anime like One Piece and Naruto. I’m friendly, professional, and genuinely passionate about helping my students grow in both confidence and fluency. Lessons are typically one hour long and combine speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a balanced, practical way. I place a strong focus on communication, helping you feel confident using real Japanese in real situations. You’ll also gain cultural context and everyday phrases that go beyond textbooks, making your learning more authentic and enjoyable. No two students are the same, so I don’t follow a fixed curriculum. Instead, I listen closely to what you want to achieve and adjust materials and topics accordingly. Whether you're shy about speaking or eager to master kanji, I’ll support you with patience, encouragement, and a friendly approach that puts you at ease. My lessons are ideal for complete beginners to intermediate learners of any age.
