About Junghyun

I am a fresh graduate who majored in Educational Psychology at Utrecht University, in the Netherlands. Due to the area of my study, I know the psychology behind the way people learn, and pick up new skills as well as factors that affect students' motivation, and the importance of teacher's role. I try to incorporate what I learnt in Psychology into the way I teach Korean for efficient language learning.

As for my experience in teaching, I have been teaching Korean a little over 5 years now as I have been giving Korean lessons since the final year of my high school. Back at my university in the Netheralnds, I have organized a Korean culture and language club in which I taught my fellow classmates Korean and its culture and history.

About the lesson

My lessons are geared toward anybody interested in learning Korean. It doesn't matter whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced learner. Regardless of your age, and level, I can give tailored lessons that suit your needs.

Pedagogical Approach:
I always prioritize fluency over accuracy in language which means my lessons would be focused more on practical conversation rather than writing and grammar exercises. Through our dynamic learning activities, I will strive for you to pick up Korean grammar effortlessly and unconsciously.

I also give homework and assignments for every class to make sure that you practice Korean outside class hours. I adjust the amount of homework/assignments based on your schedule (i.e., if you are a full-time worker, I assign simple learning activities that would not take up too much of your free time)

Most importantly, I want to keep my students motivated. When it comes to learning a language, it is easy to feel stuck and hit a plateau. Therefore, I often schedule a feedback session whether in person, online, via chat (depending on students' preference) where we can discuss what you are struggling with and come up with the best approach to achieving your goal.

How our lessons will look:
All the material (eg. textbooks) needed for class will be provided by me. There will be various speaking and listening exercises. For example, I use a lot of situational dialogue to teach you appropriate phrases and words that native speakers use when doing grocery shopping, going to see a doctor, taking a taxi, etc. Apart from situational dialogue, we will watch short clips from K-drama, and K-tv shows, as well as listen to parts of K-pop songs to advance your listening skills and vocabulary.

Material used:
1) PPT slides and Word doc
2) Korean textbooks
3) Youtube videos (short clips of K-dramas, K-tv shows, and K-pop)

Shenae is such a fast learner. The speed with which she picks up Koren in every lesson surprises me. But most improtantly, she works very hard, reviews each class thoroughly and completes her homework every time.
