About Sungmin

Hi! I’m Sungmin, a native Korean speaker currently living in Australia and working as a nurse.

My journey has taken me across different countries, cultures, languages, and fields of study. I first studied English at a language institute in New York and later moved to Belgium, where I studied Molecular Biotechnology. After that, I came to Australia and studied Pharmacy in Sydney before eventually discovering that healthcare and nursing were where I truly belonged. I have since completed my nursing studies in Australia and now work as a nurse.

Because of this journey, I know exactly what it feels like to learn, study, and live in a language that isn’t your mother tongue.

When I first started learning English, it wasn’t simply about memorizing vocabulary or grammar. English eventually became a tool that allowed me to study overseas, live in different countries, meet people from completely different cultures, and build a life far away from Korea.

That experience is one of the biggest reasons I became interested in teaching Korean. If learning another language could open so many doors for me, I would love to help someone else experience the same thing through my own language.

As a native Korean speaker, I want to teach you more than just textbook Korean. Of course, we can study grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and pronunciation systematically, but I also want to help you understand the Korean that people actually use in everyday life, natural expressions, casual conversations, cultural nuances, formal and informal speech, and those little things that textbooks sometimes struggle to explain.

Whether you are starting from your very first 안녕하세요, already know some Korean but feel nervous speaking it, or want to sound more natural and confident, I will adapt the lessons to your individual level and goals.

And this is actually where teaching Korean feels surprisingly similar to nursing for me.

One of the things I love most about being a nurse is being able to use the knowledge and skills I have to become someone useful and supportive to another person. I find a lot of meaning in being there for someone who needs my help.

I realized that teaching can give me that same sense of purpose.

Just as every patient needs different care, I believe every student needs a different approach. Some people learn best through conversation, others need more structure and grammar, and some simply need a comfortable space where they can make mistakes without feeling embarrassed.

So I want to understand how you learn, where you are struggling, and what you ultimately want to achieve with Korean. From there, we can build your Korean step by step at your own pace.

My lessons can be tailored to Korean for everyday conversation, travel, study, work, relationships, Korean culture, or simply because you enjoy the language and want to understand it more deeply.

Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable making mistakes. I’ve been a language learner myself, so I know that sometimes the biggest obstacle isn’t vocabulary or grammar it’s simply having the confidence to speak.

So, in a way, let me take care of your Korean just as carefully as I take care of my patients.

I’ll find the areas that need a little extra care, help you work through them, and do my very best to make your Korean healthier and stronger! one lesson at a time. :)

About the lesson

As a native Korean speaker who has studied in various international environments, I understand what it feels like to learn and communicate in another language. My own experience learning English has helped me understand the challenges language learners face, and I would love to use that experience to help you learn Korean in a comfortable and practical way.

My lessons will be tailored to your current Korean level and personal goals. I use structured Korean language textbooks covering different levels, from complete beginners to more advanced learners, so we can follow a clear learning pathway while focusing on the areas you need most.

Whether your goal is everyday conversation, grammar, reading and writing, pronunciation, or simply becoming more confident speaking Korean, I will adapt each lesson to your needs.

Most importantly, I want Korean to feel like a language you can actually use, not just something you study from a textbook.
