About Laurence

Life is a journey! Hello everyone, I’m Laurence, and I’m excited to be your guide on this Mandarin language journey. Although I’m currently based in Vancouver, Beijing will always be my home. Having lived there for more than forty years, I’ve been deeply immersed in China’s culture and language. After graduating from university, I worked for over two decades as a Finance Manager at a top 500 American pharmaceutical company, which also helped me become fluent in English. With my passion for language learning, I began studying French in 2016 and even spent a year in Paris to continue my studies. This blend of professional and academic experiences has given me a deep understanding of language learning, which I now bring into my teaching. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills—no matter your age—I’ll tailor lessons to your unique needs and goals. Let’s explore this amazing language together and make the most of our time learning!**

Whether you want to dive into a new culture, chat with friends, or make traveling easier, you’re in the right place. Mandarin is a lively, expressive language spoken in China, with a rhythm all its own.

My lessons focus mainly on speaking and listening. Along the way, we’ll learn useful words and phrases, and practice real-life conversations. Writing will be your homework—I’ll always encourage you to send me a few sentences after class for extra practice.

No stress—just a relaxed and enjoyable way to pick up Mandarin and discover how it fits into your world.
