About Angelica
Hi! I’m Angelica, a native Mandarin speaker from Taiwan.
Since moving to Australia, I’ve had the chance to interact with people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. These conversations have made me more aware of how Mandarin can be perceived from an English-speaking perspective, and have also helped me reflect more deeply on my own language and culture.
This experience has shaped the way I teach. I focus on explaining Mandarin in a clear, relatable way, while also helping learners understand the cultural logic behind expressions.

I grew up using Traditional Chinese characters (繁體中文) and Zhuyin (Bopomofo /Mandarin Phonetic Symbols), and I enjoy helping learners discover not only how to speak Mandarin, but also understand how the language works and why it feels the way it does.
With an academic background in English and experience using English in learning and communication, I understand many of the questions English speakers have when learning Mandarin. I like to explain Mandarin in a way that connects with an English-speaking perspective, without losing its cultural depth.
In my lessons, we can explore things like:
Why certain Chinese expressions don't translate literally.
The stories behind Chinese characters and radicals.
Wordplay, puns, and layered meanings in Mandarin.
Everyday Taiwanese Mandarin and natural conversations.
The culture and ways of thinking reflected in the language.
My goal is to help you enjoy learning Mandarin —not just memorizing it.
I believe language becomes much easier to retain when you understand the ideas and culture behind it.
