About Dmitry

After I got a degree in International Relations at Moscow State University, I dedicated myself to humanitarian missions. I spent a year and a half in Nicaragua and Guatemala working in charitable clinics, and then two years in Africa, in Mozambique, building schools for rural kids. During my work, I began teaching English to local people, and at some point, by request of my students, I started teaching Russian as well.

About the lesson

My lessons are open to students who speak English, Spanish, or Portuguese, and I work with all levels, from beginners to advanced learners

We speak Russian, we text in Russian, and we focus on being understood. I am not strict about pronunciation or small grammar details at the beginning. These can be polished later, once the student feels confident. My main goal is that students start speaking, understand what they say, and are understood by native Russian speakers.
I have gained broad practical experience by learning languages myself, immersing in different cultures, and communicating in foreign languages. So I know what is most effective and realistic for students.
In my lessons, we try different approaches:
Conservative methods (textbooks, structure, basic grammar)

Progressive methods (immersion, communication, media, real-life situations)

Experimental approaches, including ideas from the GPA (Growing Participator Approach), where the student learns like a child — through interaction, context, and meaning rather than memorization.

Each lesson is adapted to the student’s level, goals, preferences, and personality. My priority is always communication practice.
I often explain my method with a metaphor. Learning a language is like filling a jar:
First, we put in the big rocks — basic grammar and core verbs
Then the stones — broader vocabulary and more complex structures
Only after that do we add the sand — pronunciation details, exceptions, and fine grammar points
