About Paul
I received my PhD in physics from Tulane University, where I studied nuclear structure theory. During my time there, I taught several different undergraduate level labs and lecture courses, which gave me the experience and skillset needed to work with students who are having difficulty approaching this type of material. Afterwards, I was a full instructor where I was responsible for not only lectures and lesson-planning but also grading, which let me get insight into the many ways the students think about this material and see common types of misunderstandings/mistakes.

My primary focus for tutoring is first making sure the student understands the bedrock principles at work. For these advanced subjects, it is not enough to simply do a few problems and check your answers/solutions. Much of these concepts are abstract and are not connected to our everyday experiences, so it is important that time is taken to "peek under the hood" and learn what is governing them.
I also think its important to understand the context of these topics, and know how they fit in to previous material and future material, essentially creating a mental roadmap for the student so that it helps orient themselves to what they are learning.
Any lesson that I make is tailored to the individual's understanding of that particular topic regardless of what level/degree they are at. Everyone learns differently and at different paces, so there is no "catch-all" way to teach an idea.
