I usually try to explain the bigger picture when I tutor. I answer the “why” not simply “it’s this way because I told you so”. This was always my biggest issue with teachers, and concepts never stuck with me when I didn’t understand why it was the way it was. If I see someone isn’t understanding the way I’m explaining something, I’ll explain it in a new way.
