About Saiyuan
Hi, I'm Michael, currently an undergraduate Philosophy student at the University of Edinburgh, and a seven years Go veteran. I have previously been under the tutelage of a 9 Dan professional player in China, as well as competed internationally in Japan and the U.S.
Go and its simple rules yet unlimited variations have always fascinated me, and for me, there's no better way to spread its joys and mysteries than through teaching.

My approach to teaching depends on your level.
If you're a complete beginner: I will familiarize you with the rules, the shapes, and the basic mentality of go. I will also prepare you for basic life and death problems.
If you're a beginner: I will teach you some basic Josekis and continue to intrigue you with life and death problems. At this point I wouldn't recommend teaching games just yet, but if that's something you want let me know.
If you're an intermediate or advanced player: Learning will be dominated by handicap or non-handicap teaching games. I will recap your games in detail and discuss how you can improve your mentality in playing.
Aside from all of the above, you can also show me the games you've played on your own time. We can discuss your strengths and weaknesses, the mentality of play, and help you improve move by move.
