About Gautam
Hi I'm Gautam. I am currently a first year Mechanical Engineering Student studying in the University of Southampton. My two favourite subjects in school were physics and maths and as they were my strongest subjects, I have decided to tutor these subjects to students who need a bit of help to get where they want to be. I tutor students online via screen share where I write on screen and sketch diagrams so the student can easily gain a visual understanding of the topic being taught. My teaching style is very interactive where I regularly have students give their input when solving problems rather than lecturing, allowing the student to draw their own conclusions and understand the topic for themselves. For students who are more mathematically inclined, I can use graphs and equations to derive explanations as to why something occurs. For those who prefer written questions, I can use analogies to explain a particular concept so it is easy to remember and makes sense to the student. When tutoring, I try to keep things dynamic, by letting the student dictate their needs at that given point in time, using a learning style they are comfortable with, so they can confidently solve problems on their own. Having achieved top grades in maths and physics at both GCSE and A-Level, I can confidently say that I am proficient in teaching these subjects to GCSE students. I have informally volunteered in school to teach maths and physics to lower year groups within secondary school as well as mentor Year 12 students for A-Level in these particular subjects. I have also formally tutored physics before where I use a variety of techniques to help students better understand concepts. Depending on which way a student is inclined, for those who understand better by way of example, I try to use analogies to help portray ideas across and those who are more mathematically inclined, I use derivation of equations and graphs to help students to better understand. A combination of this supplemented with answering questions together helps me create an interactive experience for students and better prepare them for exams. As someone who had tuition for A-Level, I understand the concern that students may have regarding how effective a lesson can be virtually, rather than in-person. However, in my experience, I had found online tuition to be just as effective as the in-person tuitions I had for GCSE, and in many ways, online tuition better suited my schedule. When tutoring online, I aim to deliver the same experience that I had when I was being tutored. As I tutor virtually rather than in-person, I have made sure that the lack of physical interaction does not detract from the quality of a lesson. I am able to achieve this through screen share on web chat platforms where I can write equations and sketch diagrams using a tablet on applications such as Microsoft OneNote. Keeping virtual notes means that students can refer to notes made outside of the lesson in addition to their own self-made notes if they have to. Whilst the use of a camera is an effective way for students to show me their work, I have also found that students being able to describe their working out, and verbalise their process to me better solidifies their understanding of a topic. Having lessons virtually means that timing and scheduling is generally more flexible I won’t be reliant on other factors such as transport which can often result in less time for me to teach during the week.
Recommendations

Gautam was a great tutor when teaching A-level physics. He knew what parts of the syllabus to focus on for high marks and how to identify and approach weaker areas of knowledge that I struggled with.
I would highly recommend Gautam to any student.View more recommendations
