Learning music means making music

My approach is simple: learning an instrument should first and foremost be an enjoyable musical experience.

I have been a musician and music teacher for more than 25 years, working with harmonica, recorder, transverse flute and beginner guitar. Throughout this journey, I have taught students with different backgrounds and goals, while also working professionally as a musician, including eight years as a member of Brazilian singer and guitarist Emmerson Nogueira’s band.

For this reason, my lessons aim to balance technique, musical knowledge and practical playing from the very beginning. I don't believe you need to spend months doing exercises before actually making music. Music is the starting point.

What are the lessons like?

Every student has a different starting point, pace and goal. I therefore adapt the lessons to each person's needs and musical interests.

Depending on the instrument and your goals, we can work on:

* songs you enjoy and would like to learn;
* posture, breathing and technique;
* rhythm and musical perception;
* reading and understanding music;
* chords and accompaniment;
* scales and keys;
* improvisation;
* ear training;
* building a repertoire;
* music theory applied to practical playing.

With the harmonica, I work with complete beginners as well as more experienced players who want to develop technique, improvisation, phrasing, bends and overbends, blues, brazilian styles, and their own musical language.

With the recorder and transverse flute, we can work on technique, breathing, articulation, intonation, reading and repertoire.

With guitar, my lessons are mainly aimed at beginners who want to learn how to accompany songs, sing and play at the same time, develop chords, rhythms and a repertoire.

What if you've never played an instrument before?

That's absolutely fine.

An important part of my work is showing people that there is no right age to start making music. We can start from scratch, at your own pace, without the feeling that you need to “know music” before you begin.

And if you used to play an instrument but stopped some time ago, even better. We can pick up where you left off and rebuild your relationship with music.

My experience is also part of the lesson

Besides being a teacher, I am an active musician, and I bring to my lessons what I have learned through decades of playing, studying, rehearsing, recording and performing.

My training as a specialist in Waldorf education and my studies in Anthropomusic also influence the way I teach, with an emphasis on listening, musical perception, creativity and student independence.

My goal is not simply to make you reproduce what I do. It is to give you the tools to discover and develop your own way of making music.

Whether you want to start learning an instrument, get back to playing after years away, or simply take your musicianship a little further, we can build that journey together.
