In my teaching, I incorporate a great deal of drama elements. I believe drama becomes the medium for the exploration of the ideas, relationships and language of the topic. My goal is to stimulate the students, help them to go beyond what they already know. My students love speaking-in-role while role-playing; writing-in-role in the forms of letters, diary entries, messages, etc; interviewing or being interviewed by reporters. They enjoy storytelling; participating in a meeting (where they have to plan action, make decisions, suggest strategies for solving a problem) and even defending a case in the court! These techniques help build up confidence and develop effective communication skills.
I’ve been constantly on the lookout for exciting teaching materials, such as detective stories, movies, cartoons, songs (big fan!), audio practice, power points presentations, visual aids – you name it!
I have been a teacher for more than 15 years, providing instruction at secondary schools, university, A-level Center, children and adult language schools. I have lived and taught English in Russia, Singapore, China and Canada (Ontario and New Brunswick).
