About Dane
Greetings, my name is Dane Zagar (Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, 2013). Although I have always enjoyed learning new concepts and thinking techniques, I have found sharing knowledge is equally as rewarding as obtaining it. As a homeschooler, mathematics was the subject my parents had the most difficulty explaining. Consequently, I struggled to understand the ideas, but I worked hard to increase my knowledge of the subject. My motivation was to teach my younger sister, who went from 3rd grade to Calculus level in three years. I started my professional mathematics tutoring career as a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin Superior in 2011. After college, I became a National Science Foundation fellow in Mathematics (2014). I also volunteered as an AmeriCorps teacher at the Duluth Edison North Star Academy in 2016-17. Since then, I have been running a successful math and chess teaching business. When I am not teaching mathematics, I use my math-based thinking structures to enjoy playing chess. I have won several state and national chess championships and attained the United States Chess Federation rank of Chess Expert, which places me in the top 2% of chess players in the entire world! I teach a problem-solving process that will help students succeed in and outside of the classroom!
