About Matthew

Hi, I'm Matthew and I have a real passion for teaching in geography and the environment. I believe it's an important subject and love to see students more engaged with it and using it to understand important real-world issues. I have a strong foundation of tutoring experience and a record of helping students to improve their grades. I have a personal interest in what I tutor and am actively pursuing higher education in Climate Science beyond my undergraduate Geography degree. My work with many students since I started tutoring means I have experience of tutoring students of a wide range of abilities and can spend time working out what targeted support is needed to help you towards success in your GCSEs/A Levels, as well as hopefully inspire a love for the subject too! Although my own work has involved more physical geography, I am confident and experienced in teaching all aspects of geography, and we can focus on whatever topics/exam practice is most needed. Outside of tutoring, my interests are going to indie music events with friends, running and travelling!

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring involves tailoring the lesson style to what works best for the student. We start with a structure of starter questions, interactive teaching activities and then exam practice. This can be adapted to focus on unpacking particularly challenging concepts and addressing more complex exam questions too. The lessons are usually 1 hour and can include or focus on whatever it is the student needs help with. I offer tuition to students studying at GCSE and A Level (so from Year 9 up to Year 13). My qualifications are A Levels in Geography (A*), Biology (A*), Ancient History (A) and EPQ (A*). I have recently completed a BA Geography degree at the University of Oxford and will be undertaking a Master's degree later this year in MSc Applied Meteorology and Climate at the University of Reading. I have been tutoring for over 2 years, with various online tutoring agencies as well as in person at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset for a school holidays revision course. Privately, I have tutored several students too and have received positive feedback with students opting in to lessons for the remainder of their GCSEs or A Levels.
