About Augustine
Having scored in the top 3.3% of admissions test scores for Oxford Physics, with all 9s at GCSE and A*A*A*A* at A-Level, I know how to ace exams. I find physics and maths really fun to do and derive a satisfaction from doing problems well from a solid core of understanding. This is what we will aim for in the sessions, not blind following through of processes. I have lots of experience tutoring other students in both maths and physics. I was head coach at my physics club and have also delivered lectures on physics to large groups in addition to having taught an online course. I like to make students work hard and enjoy it too! With my tutoring you will be sure not only to get great results but also to enjoy the subject more.

"Students should be made to think, to doubt, to communicate, to question, to learn from their mistakes, and most importantly have fun in their learning" said Richard Feynman. This is my mantra for teaching. With me as a tutor, understanding will be built up from a simple level. This will provide a solid foundation for reasoning and will serve well in any subject, especially physics and maths. I specialise in Oxbridge admissions and A-Level physics and maths, and GCSE physics and maths. My lessons are usually an hour long. The teaching approach will be tailored to your needs and usually involves:
- Obtaining an overview of goals and required steps to achieve them
- Identifying areas to focus on
- Leading the student through the content where unsure, making them think the whole time
- Walking through example questions, prompting where required and helping to answer in such a way to score all the marks
- Exam technique advice: getting used to marks schemes and other top tips to pick up as many marks as possible
- Setting problems to be done outside lesson to consolidate knowledge if desired

Perfect! My son has had a few Physics lessons with Gus. Patient, knowledgeable and always well prepared, Gus makes complicated topics easy to understand and has been a great help in my son’s revision for the coming exams. He also gives good constructive feedback. With Gus, my son is gaining confidence in the subject and is definitely more optimistic about the grade he can achieve for Physics. Thank you Gus!
- We have had three lessons so far focusing on AS-Level Physics. They have been productive, covering both whole-topic reviews and mixed questions from past papers. Theo has been engaged and has a good understanding of where he needs to improve, often bringing specific topics he would like to go over to the lessons. He has also been doing his own revision, which is key — in particular, working through past exam questions and using the mark scheme to assess his answers.See the response Augustine :
When looking at past paper questions, we have been focusing on exam technique: how to approach questions, what aspects of the answer are key to scoring marks, and the importance of presentation. Overall, we are making good progress, and if this level of practice is maintained in the lead-up to the exams, I hope that Theo is pleased with both his performance and, ultimately, his grade.

Gus has an great grasp of physics, but beyond that has a unique ability to explain the harder concepts to you that you would otherwise think to be inaccessible. His commitment to teaching and helping other is commendable and he is an extremely capable physicist.
I highly recommend Gus. He breaks problems down lucidly and allows students to understand the logic of derivations effortlessly. Very good.
