About James

I bring 17 years of experience as a registered securities and financial services professional, having spent my career advising clients on investments, retirement planning, and wealth management within the financial services industry. Throughout that time, I've personally sat for and passed the very licensing exams I now teach, so I understand firsthand what it takes to prepare for them effectively — and where most candidates get tripped up.

Beyond my industry background, I've spent 23 years as an educator and coach, including time teaching at the college level. That combination of real-world financial expertise and genuine teaching experience means I don't just know the material — I know how to explain it clearly, break down complex concepts, and keep students motivated through what can be a demanding study process.

I take a patient, structured, and personalized approach to every student I work with, because I know that passing a licensing exam can have a real impact on someone's career. My goal is to make sure you walk into your test feeling prepared and confident, not just familiar with the material.

About the lesson

My approach is built around real-world application, not just memorizing rules. I start every student with a diagnostic to identify weak spots in the exam blueprint, then build a customized study plan that targets those areas first rather than wasting time on material you've already mastered.

A typical lesson combines targeted concept review, practice questions pulled from real exam-style material, and a walk-through of my reasoning on tricky problems — so you learn how to think through unfamiliar questions on test day, not just recall memorized answers. I track your progress across sessions and adjust the plan as you improve.

What sets me apart is 17 years actually working in the securities industry — I'm not teaching from a textbook, I'm teaching from experience advising real clients and passing these same exams myself. I can connect abstract exam concepts to how they actually play out in practice, which makes the material stick.
