About Bethany

Hi, I'm Bethany! I'm a patient, enthusiastic tutor offering English, French, and piano lessons for students who want to learn with confidence and enjoy the process.

Music is one of my greatest passions. I've studied piano through RCM Grade 8, with training in both performance and music theory. I love jazz, classical, and modern anime openings, so my lessons can include anything from a Chopin nocturne to a jazz standard to the theme song you can't stop humming. I believe the best way to stay motivated is to play music you love, and I'll happily help you learn it.

About the lesson

My Approach to Teaching Piano

I believe everyone can learn piano when lessons are patient, structured, and built around music they enjoy. I teach the whole musician: playing, reading, listening, and understanding how music works. Students leave each lesson knowing exactly what to practice and why it matters.

Teaching Methodology and Techniques

Technique and posture: We build healthy hand position, finger strength, and smooth, relaxed playing through scales, arpeggios, and simple technical exercises.

Sight reading and theory: I teach students to read sheet music confidently and understand the theory behind it (rhythm, key signatures, chords, and harmony), following the Royal
Conservatory of Music (RCM) approach.

Repertoire you love: Alongside classical pieces and exam repertoire, students can learn favourite songs, which keeps practice motivating and fun.

Small steps: We break pieces into short sections, practice slowly, and gradually build speed and expression.

Ear training: Listening and rhythm exercises help students play more musically and learn faster.

A Typical Lesson

Warm-up and check-in (5 to 10 minutes): Light technique, scales, and a quick review of the week's practice.
Theory or sight reading (10 minutes): A short, focused skill, such as a new rhythm pattern or key signature.
Repertoire work (25 to 30 minutes): We refine current pieces, working on accuracy, dynamics, and expression, and I give clear, encouraging feedback.
Wrap-up (5 minutes): We recap what we learned and set practice goals for the week.

What Sets Me Apart

I have studied piano through RCM Grade 8, with training in both performance and music theory, so I understand the full path from first lesson to advanced repertoire. I'm also an experienced and patient educator who has supported youth learners as a reading program facilitator at a library. I know how to explain ideas in simple terms and adapt to each student's pace, whether they feel nervous, easily distracted, or eager to move quickly.

Who My Lessons Are For

Complete beginners of any age, including children, teens, and adults starting for the first time
Intermediate students looking to strengthen technique, theory, and sight reading
Students working toward RCM levels, up to Grade 8
Students who want to learn pop, film, or favourite songs alongside classical pieces
Adults returning to piano after a break, in a relaxed, no-pressure setting

I look forward to helping you build confidence and enjoy your musical journey!
