My teaching methodology is one of support and patience. I ensure that I am encouraging progress and not perfection, so that my students learn and develop to the best of their ability in a comfortable environment where any achievement is celebrated. I always tailor my lesson plans or activities around the student(s) as individual learners, harnessing their strengths and encouraging the development of weak points. During sessions, I strive to focus on all necessary parts of learning French as a Second Language; reading, writing, speaking and listening. These are all incorporated in a variety of ways that activate prior learning and prepare the student for future learning, resulting in consolidation of learning.
I have helped many students either reach their potential, or excel in French academics, as well as the language in general. I have experience working one on one and in small groups both with students who were struggling with certain concepts, or simply wanted to refine their skills. This includes assisting with difficult homework, creating supplementary activities to reinforce or review knowledge, creating lesson plans to introduce new topics, or designing entire courses for students seeking enrichment.
I am currently a student at Brock University pursuing a Bachelor of Education, specializing in teaching French as a Second Language and History at an Intermediate/Senior (grades 7 - 12) level. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in French Studies with a minor in History, obtained from the University of Guelph. During my time at the University of Guelph, I was on the Dean's Honour List for the last few semesters of my studies.
I have worked at various positions outside of the field of education where I have developed my skills in the French language, such as Parks Canada and Canadian Tire Financial Services. At both positions, communicating with native speakers of the language was an essential part of the job, both orally and through written forms.
Perfect! Max has been a great tutor for my 14 year old son. He has a lot of patience. It is only because our schedules do not work out that we will not be using his services.
