About Hamish

Approaching education in a creative, stimulating and enjoyable way in order to further an individual's passions in a subject is what truly motivates me in this area. Having achieved a 1st in Economics from St. Chad’s College, Durham, I have a strong base of knowledge in Maths and Economics. These subjects provide fascinating insights into the inner-workings of our society's decisions and patterns. Furthermore, I made the decision to broaden my knowledge base, and went on to attain an MA in Theatre Directing from Mountview. Currently pursuing a career as a theatre director, I am thoroughly confident in tutoring Drama at all levels, as well as English to GCSE. As a director, much of my role is to get the best out of individuals, both by inspiring them, setting an example and spotting where their talents and interests lie. The most effective way of doing so is by creating a friendly, unpressured environment, which serves efficient use of time and allows individuals to create their best work. Directing has also honed my preparation and planning skills for creating sessions, whilst leaving space for flexibility to adapt during a session and maximise its usefulness. I pride myself on knowing good examination technique, be it essay-based or question-based, leading to the best possible results in tests of all kind, whilst inspiring and encouraging individuals of any age to further their passions in the subject. My interests also include chess (having captained the Welsh junior team at 12), sailing, art and film, whilst always leading an active lifestyle by running marathons. Having taught Scuba Diving to children aged 13-16, a sport which requires huge trust between pupil and teacher, I am also well equipped to deal with high-pressured and stressful situations. Often complimented on my calmness and approachability, I have worked with children of all ages in both practical and educational environments. Hamish taught a variety of subjects to our 12 year old in preparation for 13+. Hamish was incredibly methodical and also created a schedule that suited the abilities of our son. This worked particularly well as our son needed help with not only learning but organising himself to learn on his own. I was incredibly impressed with the way Hamish coached our son and also used very positive language even at the end of his tutorage when the pressure was on in terms of revision and exams were looming.

I would definitely employ Hamish again in the future to help out with revision and an extra lessons in the build up to GCSE's and would strongly recommend him to you and any potential parents if their children need any academic support in term time, revision and exam support.
