About Alexandra

I have I have worked with children in education for more than 20 years, having started
off working with vulnerable children. As my interest in education and child development
grew, I pursued studies in Montessori Education and Special Needs Education.
My teaching career has included working with children ranging between the ages
of 3 to 12 years, some of who had special educational needs, vulnerable children, as well
as mainstream children, and ESL speakers.
Having worked in a number of different countries I have had the opportunity to
experience a variety of curricula, including the British, Namibian and South African
National Curriculum and the Montessori Curriculum.
I have been Head of the Early Years Department at British National Curriculum
schools in Kuwait for the past 6 years.

About the lesson

My educational background and varied experience in pedagogy has helped me to
develop a curriculum for the Early Years that not only aims to educate the
child academically, but also socially and emotionally, something that is becoming
increasingly necessary in this day and age.
Development in the early years is rapid and a child’s experiences between birth
and age five have a significant impact on all future growth and learning. Therefore I believe it is essential to create a secure, safe and happy environment, together with
high quality early learning to provide the foundation children need to make the most of
their abilities and talents.
It is essential that children are given the appropriate support to enable them to
fulfill their potential. This is done by encouraging the child to engage with other people
and their environment through playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and
thinking critically. It is these elements that support learning and development across
all areas and help the child to become, and remain, an effective and motivated lifelong
learner.
