About Mark

Oxford Graduate, decades of getting results teaching mathematics to students in school and privately at GCSE, A level, IB, Teacher training, professional qualifications. Studied with pioneer maths educator Zoltan Dienes (famous for Dienes blocks). First job was teaching in a teacher training college in West Africa in the year before going to Oxford. - What kind of experience do you have? I have been tutoring and teaching for decades. My first job was teaching teachers in a teacher training college in West Africa as an 18 year old. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? I have an up to date DBS certificate - Where and with whom did you train? Part of my mathematical training was with Professor Dienes - the inventor of the Dienes blocks used in most schools around the world. He aimed to make maths fun. He taught me mathematical games that can make maths more fun.

About the lesson

*Find the real underlying problem of understanding and sort that out. - - *Often comes down to missing definitions of words and symbols. *Students say I'm very good at explaining things they haven't understood. *Patient and friendly with a light touch.. I love Maths and I have been teaching and tutoring Advanced and GCSE levels with good results for years. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I tutor Mathematics - Tell me about your qualifications. I have a Pure Maths honours degree from Oxford. I also have Qualified Teacher Status. - How much do you charge? I charge £37 for A Level, £38 for Further Maths and £33 for GCSE. The first half hour lesson is free with no obligation. I am willing to travel anywhere (travel charged at half tuition rate). Adults welcome. Group lessons possible. I also tutor online using Skype. - Where do you teach? I normally teach from home but I am willing to travel anywhere - charged at half tuition rate - particularly Crawley, Forest Row, Tunbridge Wells and London. - When are you available? I am available for tutoring morning, afternoons and evenings. - Which ages and levels do you teach? I teach GCSE, Advanced, Further Maths, and professional Maths levels and for any age. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? I prepare students, for GCSE, IGCSE, AS, A2, further Maths and IB and various professional requirements. - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I tutor online using Skype. - Do you have a personal message for students? Have a free half hour lesson without obligation and see how I really can help you.

Perfect! Mark is an excellent tutor. He enabled me to pass my maths equivalency exam in just 7 lessons.
As a mature student, I have been out of education for 16 years. However, for my PGCE program I needed to ensure that I could convert the E received in 2005, to a C grade. I was under time constraints and felt lots of pressure to remember so much information after such a long period out of education. However, thanks to the wonderful experience and supportive energy of Mark, I was able to prepare for my foundation maths equivalency exam and achieve the required C result in a very short time.
In all lessons he patiently listened to my academic needs, helping me to overcome many weaknesses in a fun, creative and encouraging way. I would even go as far to say that he made maths fun, which for someone who has always struggled with it as a subject, is a monumental achievement.
I cannot recommend Mark enough. He has great experience and a nurturing, creative energy that was able to make the impossible possible with me. Choose him as your tutor and you will succeed in no time.
