About Anna

My name is Anna. I am a Hungarian harpist who has studied harp in Hungary, Switzerland, Ireland, England, Scotland and in Wales. I have been teaching the harp for the past eight years from beginner to advanced level in all age groups, including adult beginners. I have been studying in a Primary School of Music, finished my Secondary studies in a Hungarian Conservatory of Music, graduated in Bmus Performance at the Irish TU Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama and finished my musical studies with a Postgraduate in Performance degree in Cardiff's Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In Hungary, I had won a second prize, a third prize and a special prize in the Hungarian National Harp Competition, a second prize in the Budapest 7th District Competition of solo musicians and a first prize in the Budapest 5th District Competition of Solo Musicians. Among many exhibitions, galas, ceremonies and conferences, I also performed in the Palace of Arts for the Gala concert of the National Harp Competition, in the Hungarian State Opera House, introducing the harp on the event „Magical Instruments” and in the Hungarian National Theatre, where I partly arranged as well as performed the background music for a contemporary dance play called Babel. I then moved to Ireland for my undergraduate studies to learn from Denise Kelly McDonnell. In Ireland, I joined the TU Dublin Harp Ensemble and played at the International Traditional Harp Festival in Edinburgh, at the RDS Rising Stars Concert and twice at the International Harp Festival in Wales, among many other events. In 2017, I was nominated to represent TU Dublin Conservatory on the Freemasons Young Musician of the Year, after which I organized my first solo recital which took place in Budapest. My second solo recital took place in Dublin in 2019, where I combined my passion of performance, composition and teaching with Classical and Folk music and performed not only solo but with ensembles, duos, trios and my students as well. I then won a special prize on the Irish Feis Ceoil’s Aileen Gore’s Cup in 2019. I had been taught by many international harpists, such as Eleanor Bennett, Catrin Finch, Milda Agazarian, Irina Zingg, Marcella Carboni, Sylvain Blassel, Mara Galassi, Park Stickney, Anneleen Lenaerts and others. I have experience in classical, non-classical and folk music (Celtic and Hungarian), both in teaching, arranging and performing them. I believe that every person needs a different teaching method, as I am not teaching the harp, rather teaching the student.

I'm a passionate teacher with 8+ years of practice. I have taught in person and online from the start and have gained a lot of experience. I've taught and am teaching all age groups, from 5 to 70+ year old students, from beginner to advanced level. I believe I need to fit my lessons to my students, as no two persons are the same. My teaching method is technique and musicality based. I like to build a strong technical foundation, while not keeping the lessons dry with centering my lessons around the student and around keeping the love of music alive.
I always say, I don't teach the harp, but rather the student.
