About Lorenzo
I left the Royal Waremme Athénée with a diploma in Latin (4h) - math (6h) - sciences (7h). After that, I did and passed a year in Physical Sciences at the University of Liège. I acquired 60 credits the first time and learned all the basics of math and physics. After that, I transferred to the University of Brussels. Once there, I actually decided very quickly to stop my studies in Physics. I spent the rest of the year giving private lessons through the Educadomo agency. So I acquired a lot of experience with students and am proud to have allowed more than 10 students to pass their exams! After this year, I enrolled in a business school in Brussels. At the same time, I developed my first smartphone app, which made me want to go to Silicon Valley. I got a scholarship at a school in San Francisco and finished my bachelor's degree there. I lived, studied and worked in San Francisco for about 3 years. After 3 years, I can say that I am perfectly bilingual. Having developed several computer applications for local firms (Finance - New Day, Pub - Outmetrix, Tech - Evernote), and having created my own consulting company in July 2019, I decided to return to Belgium to follow a master's degree in computer science at ULiège while developing my business. I am qualified to give math and physics lessons at secondary level thanks to my successful year in Physical Sciences, my high school diploma and my experience in computer science, for English lessons having lived 3 years in the United States, and for French lessons since it is my native language and since the Latin lessons that I followed for 6 years allowed me to refine my knowledge of the language. In addition to this, I think I have a fairly rich and unusual life experience for 23 years, which allows both to gain credibility with the students, to approach them more easily and to open their horizons. For example, I had a student who hated math, but loved video games (they are not uncommon!). I presented this student with my iOS video game project, showing him how the math he sees on paper is essential to the existence of his passion, video games. Then, each time we learn concepts together, I explain how these concepts are used in real life and more specifically in video games. Of course, the student did not turn into Einstein, but at least he was sufficiently captivated only to listen to me and approach math with more enthusiasm!

My methodology depends on the needs of the student. If there are only a few points of a subject that the student does not understand, we will focus directly on these points. The first thing to do is to understand where the problem is coming from. Should we simply explain the subject under other words to create a click in the student? Is there a lack of study that will be filled by giving the student additional exercises or by giving him new perspectives that will make the subject interesting for him? Does the problem come rather from a lack of self-confidence, which needs to be remedied by working the material little by little, from the simplest to the most complicated, taking the student on a series of small victories which will restore confidence. If the student needs long-term follow-up, the first session will be dedicated to understanding where the various problems come from and how the student manages his schooling. Then, I will prepare a personalized plan for the following sessions, in order to make the most of each lesson and to use methods that are most likely to work in relation to the specific needs of the student.
