About Dana

I grew up Jewish. My family was active in our small community in Connecticut and I loved getting dressed up for High Holidays and being sandwiched in with the older generations davening. When I was of bat mitzvah age, and loved Hebrew school and helped lead services. Still today, my bat mitzvah remains one of the most cherished days of my life. At an age when many turn away from religion, I loved being Jewish and was always proud of my heritage.

My path meandered in unique ways. I pursued a double major at Colgate University in East Asian Studies and Religious Studies. I voraciously learned about all religions and recall realizing that despite the many different practices and rituals, most traditions I encountered prayed to the same God and all in some way encouraged the same two living goals: love and connection.

Years after college, I moved to a mountain town and became very involved with the Jewish community, the more I longed to deepen the connection to my Jewish roots. By helping these kids become adults and understand the power of their traditions, I felt more connected to my own self. My father calls me the “keeper of the flame,” and through these activities my own light burned brighter.

This led me to going back to school and I received my smicha in 2023. I understand now that the end of this particular journey, which has brought me love, connection, and purpose, is actually another exciting beginning for my Jewish education and experience. After all, as the great Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks says, “To be a Jew is to travel. Judaism is a journey, not a destination.”

About the lesson

Preparing for your b'nai mitzvah should be meaningful and fun!

I offer personalized, engaging online tutoring for students preparing for their b'nai mitzvah - as well as students who simply want to learn Hebrew, explore Judaism, deepen their connection to Jewish life, and learn more about their heritage.

Whether you are just learning the aleph-bet or already reading Hebrew, I'll meet you where you are and create lessons designed specifically for you.

Together, we can work on:

-Hebrew reading and pronunciation
-Prayers and blessings
-Torah and Haftarah prep
-Torah chanting
-Writing a meaningful d'var torah
-Jewish holidays and traditions
-Jewish identity and values

I am an experienced Jewish educator and ordained life cycle rabbi who loves helping students explore Judaism. My teaching style is warm, encouraging, and personalized. Every student learns differently, and I believe the best learning happens when students feel comfortable, confident, and excited to participate.
