About Gurpreet

I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy postgraduate degree with the School of Medicine and Health, at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). I hold a Master of Philosophy (Medicine) degree from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Sciences) degree from the University of Queensland. Additionally, with having completed a Foundation Certificate in Health Professions Education by the National University of Singapore and the Workforce Skills Qualifications Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACTA equivalent), I have gained expertise in designing and delivering effective educational programs that meet the needs of diverse learners.

I currently hold the position of a Sessional Academic with UNSW where I have gained experience in conducting numerous laboratory sessions for university students as well as grading students’ assessments. Furthermore, as an Educator with 8 years of experience including my most recent role as a Lecturer at the School of Health Sciences in Singapore, I have developed and taught multiple modules, such as Anatomy and Physiology, Human Biosciences and, Cell and Molecular Biology for year one to three nursing students.

I enjoy teaching as it allows me to share the gift the knowledge and nothing makes me happier than when I see the light on my students' face. Teaching allows me to not only motivate others but also learn from my students.

About the lesson

In the realm of biology education, a one-size-fits-all approach rarely yields optimal results. By embracing a personalized approach to tutoring, I aim to cater to the individual needs, learning styles, and interests of each student. Through empathy, adaptability, and a passion for teaching, I endeavor to ignite a lifelong love for biology and empower students to unlock their full potential in the fascinating world of science.

Understanding Individual Needs:
Every student possesses a distinct set of strengths, weaknesses, and learning preferences. By conducting an initial assessment, I gain insights into the student's current knowledge, areas of difficulty, and preferred learning modalities. Whether it's visual, auditory, or kinesthetic, I adapt my teaching methods to align with the student's preferences, ensuring maximum comprehension and retention.

Building a Strong Foundation:
Biology is a vast field encompassing various disciplines, from molecular biology to ecology. I prioritize laying a solid foundation by elucidating fundamental concepts before delving into more complex topics. Through clear explanations, illustrative examples, and interactive activities, I strive to demystify intricate biological phenomena and cultivate a deep understanding from the ground up.

Engaging and Interactive Learning:
Passive learning often yields limited results. Therefore, I integrate engaging and interactive elements into my tutoring sessions to stimulate curiosity and critical thinking. Whether it's conducting hands-on experiments, dissecting virtual specimens, or exploring real-world case studies, I strive to make learning biology a dynamic and enjoyable experience.

I am well-versed with teaching students up to undergraduate level as I do currently teach medical students as well.

A typical lesson is about 1.5 to 2 hours long depending on the student's requirement.
