About Hikmat
I have several years of experience teaching philosophy at universities in Toronto and Montreal. This includes anything from general introductory courses to courses on religion, literature, logic, philosophy of science, and ancient philosophy. I also work with kids regularly and have experience helping children just before high school or newly in high school read at a much higher level within months, enjoy reading, and start to think about the complex questions around them. My students find this incredibly rewarding. I am an avid reader myself - when I am not reading for my PhD, I enjoy Russian literature, contemporary news (progress in tech and related ethical questions, politics), and medieval philosophy. I am currently writing my thesis on medieval Arabic philosophy and its roots in Ancient Greek philosophy. Je peux parler aussi en français, واللغة العربية ، και ελληνικά.

I am able to teach anywhere from ages 12 and up. Are you interested in reading things you typically do not get to read in school? I can help you or your child read texts that increase in difficulty appropriate to your level, help you make connections, and think about writing on these topics. Depending on your goals, I typically plan a text or two to go through with my students. We then discuss and work on understanding the text (depending on if it is for LSAT/SAT reasons, this can include sample questions). This way, my students get to read classic texts that increase their awareness of the world and intellectual history, as well as become better readers and writers. Lessons typically last 1 to 2 hours and are structured with enough flexibility to make changes depending on your goals and progress. I make every lesson individually for each student since everyone has unique interests and I want students to feel like they are getting something valuable from our time together.
