For piano, I like to start by getting familiar with the keys. The number one most important part of playing the piano is feeling comfortable with your instrument. Let's learn the foundations of a playing, and practice until we know them inside out!
Note: I like to offer packs of 4 classes, 45 minutes at $40 each. I find this length of time to be ideal for a piano lesson, but I am open to other lengths of time as well.
I have often made use of an online whiteboard, and I never tell a student to do something without demonstrating first. I'm very flexible as to the content of our lessons, so if you want to try learning something specific, like music theory, how to play by ear, a specific piece you love, etc - I can accommodate it all!
One unique part of my services as a piano teacher is that I arrange sheet music for my students based on what they want to learn as part of my lessons. I can also make recommendations of piano books to buy if you'd like a large selection of repertoire.
My website is (concealed information) if you would like to contact me from there or view my other offerings as a teacher.
I have been teaching piano, math and English to children and adults for the past 6 years. Tutoring is hands-down the most fulfilling work I have done to date. I know first-hand that the learning process is not always easy, so I always feel great when I can help simplify concepts that students are finding stressful.
I also have ample experience as a musician. An avid believer in the social and cultural roots of music perception, I minored in Music and Culture at U of T. In 2019 and early 2020, I provided improvised musical accompaniment for The Middle of Nowhere, a downtown music showcase. I played piano and sang as part of a band during this time as well.
In tandem with my studies at U of T, I was one of four alto singers in the Hart House Jazz Choir for 3 years, during which time we recorded 6 songs for release as an EP. I have performed at many a Toronto dinner party with the McGregor Carollers, and at Casa Loma as a holiday entertainer.
I am currently focused on writing and producing my own music. The last year has been quite the learning curve, and I'm enjoying it every step of the way!
My lessons are $40 for 45 minutes. Longer or shorter can be arranged too - let's talk!

Tara is a fantastic tutor!! She helped me with calculus and trig and made them really easy to understand. The lessons are also really engaging, she can make any subject interesting!
Tara's firm foundation in theory, diverse range of musical experiences, and sensitive listening to her students combine to make her an excellent teacher. If you want to learn and to love making music while you do, Tara is a fantastic tutor.
Tara is not just whip-smart, but extremely creative. She is able to figure out where each person's roadblocks lie and tailor her teaching style accordingly. Tara will leave her mark on you not only as a student but as a person. You'll also have fun interacting with her. I recommend her highly.
