About Gonera

About who I am - a lot of things I may say: - A cartoonist (God I love comic books!) - A (still sometimes) backpacker - Used to be a comic book seller - Passionate about film studies - director and writer in my spare time - More other things but the list is already quite long Also, as a human, I would describe myself as an open-minded person, really keen to help people to learn as I loved to learn - it means, not learning something without understanding it. But really taking the time to explain the logic behind something, why it's like this and not like that. Being passionate and curious, I also shared my positive energy, willing for my student to feel at ease with me (no "monsieur" please) and at the same level. Tutor and student yes, but also two human beings, equal to equal, in a learning process.

About the lesson

Hi! Nice to meet you! I'm Valentin and (maybe) I will be your new French tutor. I have taught French since 2021 and I loved that. My typical 50-minute lesson shares time between a short warm-up conversation, followed by a topic such as reading, grammar, conjugation, understanding, depending on the expectations of my student. As I always say in my first lesson, "I want you to be wrong", because if you are, it means you tried, and by confronting yourself, you're ready to learn, and give yourself enough credibility to try. Me, my job, is to explain why you're wrong, again and again, with a smile, until you're able to correct yourself and not make the mistake again. About my qualifications: My main diploma is a Master of Film Studies, but to be qualified as a French tutor, I pursued a DAEFLE qualification in 2023, helping me to be more structural in my lessons. Until now, I have taught French to kids between 8 to 10, for different reasons (relocating to France, as a hobby), GCSE students (they got a good grade!), A-Level students, but also adults who were willing to discover or improve their French skills. I would say I'm pretty much flexible and adaptable depending on my student's age and will. About time: - I'm actually available morning/afternoon from 9am to 7.30pm UK time until June - online/travel - July and August - I would be available from mid-afternoon 4pm to 7.30pm UK time - only online - From September, back to the regular availabilities - morning and afternoon, online and travel.
